THE community will have a say on the naming of Albany’s new entertainment centre.
The City would like a name which is original and fits with the location on the Princess Royal Harbour waterfront.
“Our centre is unique, as it is located on a special site,” Mayor Milton Evans said.
“It will offer a quality service to the community of Albany and the region.”
Mr Evans said other major regional centres in Western Australia had all named their centres for the arts as entertainment centres.
The new centre being constructed needed a more appropriate name, he said.
The Department of Housing and Works is expected to hand over the centre to the City well before the official opening in 2010.
Council has already named two rooms in the building.
The theatre space will be called the ‘Princess Royal Theatre’ and the VIP room the ‘Hanover Room’.
The Aboriginal community will be invited to submit a panel of suggestions for the naming of the studio space.
