City hit by hail

THE eastern suburbs of Albany were pelted with large hailstones on Tuesday night, with reports of some up to 3cm in diameter.

The Bureau of Meteorology in Albany reported a large low pressure cell travelled directly south from Katanning, over the Porongurups and affected the eastern side of the city.

The largest report of rainfall was 13mm in Katanning with Albany receiving only 0.6mm.

The Bureau also reported 36 lighting strikes during the storm.

The State Emergency Service had no reports of major damage.
