AN Albany firm has won a tender as a direct result of its work installing CCTV network in local trouble spots.
Powell Security will install a similar camera network, now covering Stirling Terrace, in Katanning.
Katanning Shire Council wants the CCTV to cover its main street and trouble spots in an attempt to reduce crime.
Powell Securities’ Robyn Powell said winning the tender had been helped by the success of Albany’s CCTV operation and the effect it had in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour.
“This is very exciting for us,” Mrs Powell said.
“The installation of CCTV in Albany has helped because Katanning Shire was impressed by the results and wanted the same.”
The CCTV will be linked back to a recorder in the shire offices which can then be accessed when required.
“It will be set up the same way as Albany so it can be added to,” Mrs Powell said.
The $30,000 installation will be funded by the State Government’s Safer Communities program through Royalties for Regions in partnership with the Katanning Regional Business Association.
As part of the project, local businesses will have the opportunity to purchase their own cameras which can be linked in to the main surveillance system.
