Brazen bike theft

12 Jun, 2008 09:39 AM
GREAT Southern Motorcycles had a miserable start to the June long weekend when an audacious thief actually walked away with a brand new motorcycle.

As salesman Scott Taylor was locking up the rear of the shop on Friday, May 30, a 2008 KTM moto-crosser, which Mr Taylor had intended to ride home, was stolen from the forecourt.

Because it was unlocked, the insurance company will not cover the cost of the stolen bike, which is valued at about $16,000.

“I was using the bike as a demo, so I was in control of it and ultimately it’s me who’s got to pay for it,” Mr Taylor said.

Mr Taylor is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the return of the motorcycle.

“Somebody out there knows something about it.”

A youth was seen struggling with a motorcycle matching the description of the stolen bike on Chester Pass Road, just before 6pm that day.

The missing motorcycle is an orange and black KTM 450 EXC-R; Rego number: A41274, VIN: BKEXA4068M339334; Engine number: 8-78004010.

Scott Taylor can be contacted on 9841 2246.
