AN Albany woman’s court case which has been dragging on for more than two years took another turn last week.
Anita Louise Brady (43) originally pleaded not guilty to 71 separate charges of stealing from community organisations when she appeared in Albany Magistrates Court on October 21, 2008.
Brady, who is now charged with 87 separate stealing offences, made her second status conference appearance in Albany District Court on Thursday.
Her defence council, Bruno Illari, said he had faxed a letter to the Director of Public Prosecutions on July 20, setting out proposals for Brady’s defence.
Mr Illari said he hoped “the matter can go ahead without a trial”.
Judge Mary Ann Yeats extended Brady’s bail until September 10. She added that if Brady’s plea turned out to be one of guilty, a sentence could be set on September 29.
Police allege Brady stole more than $100,000 from the Mount Lockyer Primary School Parents and Citizens Association, the Albany Junior Soccer Association and the Albany Softball Association between 2003 and 2007.
Allegedly, the individual amounts stolen ranged from $120 to $6,100.
