Band again successful

03 Sep, 2009 09:16 AM
THE City of Albany Band won the Queen’s Cup for the sixth time in eight years of participation in the competition.

The Albany brass band, led by Brian Kearsley, defeated bands from Geraldton, Bunbury and Busselton.

Despite having the smallest band, 23 players, Albany managed to achieve a record 97 per cent for its rendition of I’ll Walk with God in the Hymn section.

The adjudicator said the performance “touched his heart”.

They also scored well in the March, Test piece and Popular sections.

The competition was established to commemorate the visit of Queen Elizabeth II in 1954.
