Accolades for Albany scouts

2/10/2008 8:57:00 AM
TWO young scouts and two adults associated with the 3rd Albany Scout Group in Albany have been rewarded for their hard work.

Kathryn Zambonetti and Brenton Cockayne were presented with their Australian Scout Medallions at a ceremony at Albany Scout Troop on September 14.

The medallion is the highest recognition scouts up to 14-and-a-half years of age can achieve before moving on to become Venturers as the next step in their scouting journey.

Both Kathryn and Brenton were credited with achieving more badges than required to reached their medallion, with both camping out up to 30 times.

The week before that, two of the group’s longer-serving adult members received recognition awards for their efforts at the Australian Centenary of Scouting function at Government House Ballroom.

Barb Henderson received the Outstanding Service Award for Adult Supporters, after more than 14 years in committee roles in both Albany and Perth.

Ron Pittaway, a Venturer Scout Leader, received the Silver Arrowhead for excellent service to the association after nine years.

Ron has provided support and assistance to other group members over the years, including taking a number of scouts to the jamboree in South Australia in 2004.

Both awards were presented by the Chief Commissioner of Scouts WA, Mrs Sue Mitchell, in the presence of the Governor of WA and 300 Scouting peers.
