Abduction attempt

19 Oct, 2009 12:09 PM
AN alleged attempted abduction near Albany highlights the need for parents to be more alert with their children, according to local police.

It was reported a man tried to lure two boys, aged 9 and 11, into his white station wagon at Betty’s Beach last Wednesday.

Albany Police investigated the report and, after speaking to an Albany man in his mid 50s, no charges were laid.

At no time did the man physically touch the boys.

Detective Mark Cunningham said the information provided to them did not warrant any charges to be laid.

“The recent beat-up in the local media is just not true,” he said.

“We have already spoken to the witness that has been identified and the events differ to the story he told police.”

Det Cunningham said the incident was not related to the attempted abductions in Dongara last month and Busselton last week.

Det Cunningham reminded parents to be aware of their children and to call police if incidents of this nature happened.
