ALBANY’S entertainment centre is starting to make its mark on the Princess Royal Harbour foreshore as part of the Albany Waterfront Development project.
Now nearly 12 months into its construction, the foundations for the main building structure are in place and the stairwell towers and the lift shafts are rising out of the ground to first floor.
The fly-tower structure over the stage is now visible but this will be eventually concealed by the roof structure and the café area is clearly defined, and the multi-purpose hall starting to take shape.
An average of 35 workers is currently on site.
Doric Construction says it is close to its construction program with the expected completion and commissioning to be mid-2010.
local businesses are being used with fabrication of the structural steel for the centre is currently underway in Albany.
Local subcontractor Kosters will fabricate some 500 tonnes during the project.
All of the concrete for the job is also supplied locally, from Cemex’s Albany plant site.
The next construction milestone will be the commencement of the steelwork on site
The centre will include a 620 seat, two-tiered theatre and a 200 square metre multi-purpose hall with ancillary facilities.
Building Management and Works is responsible for the procurement of the $70m project on behalf of the Great Southern Development Commission.
The City of Albany will take full responsibility for ownership, maintenance and operation of the building on completion of construction.
